Gary Schocker & Jason Vieaux
flute & guitar
Exciting and beautiful music in a mixed duo setting is the treat for
audiences who hear Gary Schocker & Jason Vieaux, flute & guitar. Classical,
Latin and Romantic repertoire paired with new and old works for the combination
are highlighted against virtuoso solo shots in their programs.
"It wasn't necessary to read the artist bios to figure out that Schocker and
Vieaux also have active solo careers. Unlike the garden-variety brand of wind-up
performers who dutifully recycle the same sturdy pieces, they exhibited strong
individual personalities and a controlled looseness together that gave the music
a spontaneity absent from so many recitals." The Washington Post
Both award-winning soloists, they concertize widely as a duo, performing from
St. Pete to Maui and recording for Azica Records.
Dream Travels, the newest CD from
the pair includes works of Ravel, Bartok, Ibert, Villa-Lobos, Merlin and Gary
Schocker.
Jason performs internationally in recital and as soloist with such major
symphonies as The Cleveland Orchestra and the Fort Worth Symphony. At only 19,
he became the youngest winner of the Guitar Foundation of America International
Competition. Vieaux is head of the guitar department at the Cleveland Institute
of Music and is the co-director of the new guitar department at the Curtis
Institute of Music.
Gary's concerto performances have included appearances with the New York
Philharmonic, the Dallas Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra, among many
others. He has toured widely in Europe, South America and Asia, and he is Winner
of the Young Concert Artists auditions, among numerous other competitions. A
prolific and award-winning composer for individual instruments as well as the
musical theatre, his flute concerto Green Places was premiered in Ireland
and America by Sir James Galway.
In addition to offering educational workshops and master-classes while on tour,
the pair offer an in-depth, week-long masterclass in New York State during the
summer. [More]
