Hassidic Life with Yuli Turovsky, Cello Soloist; Selections of

accompaniment of I Musici de Montreal: Vi bist du gevezn far

Klezmer is the traditional music of the Ashkenazi Jews of Eastern
Europe, born of a Yiddish culture that has today almost disappeared.
It has evolved over the centuries, serving as a conduit for the Jewish
soul, and as a salve in times of great misfortune. Over the past
thirty years there has been an unprecedented surge in the music’s
popularity throughout the world -- certainly fueled by its addictive
mix of soulful emotion and upbeat excitement displayed by the
performers red-hot virtuosity. A great many rich influences -- the
music of the synagogue, Hasidic and gypsy music, Central European and
Greco-Turkish dances, local folk music -- have been distilled down the
centuries to create the many-faceted music we hear today.
